Our Journey

From renovation
to development

What started as a single project has grown into a portfolio of Canterbury homes we're proud to stand behind.

The complete renovation of our first home back on the Isle of Man in 2010 was quite the undertaking. The satisfaction of transforming a dated property into something we were genuinely proud of set the course for everything that followed.

Each project since has built and honed our love of renovating and developing homes we are proud to put on the market. Every home reflects the standard we hold ourselves to.

We have undertaken a variety of projects across Canterbury, both small and large — including sub-divisions, council exemptions, new builds, and full-scale renovations across residential and development sectors.

Today Wolven operates two connected sides of the same business: we buy Canterbury properties direct from homeowners for cash to renovate and develop, and we occasionally release finished homes to market. Joint ventures and private partnerships welcome.

FAQs

Common questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from Christchurch homeowners considering a renovation or sale.

Do you work across all of Christchurch and Canterbury?

Yes. Wolven is based in Christchurch and we take on renovation and development projects across the wider Canterbury region, including Selwyn, Waimakariri, and Banks Peninsula. Get in touch with your project details and we'll confirm we can help.

How long does a typical home renovation take?

A full home renovation in Christchurch typically takes 4–8 months from concept to completion, depending on scope, consent timeframes, and material lead times. Smaller kitchen or bathroom renovations can often be delivered in 6–12 weeks. We provide realistic timelines upfront and keep you informed at every stage.

Do you handle the consent and council process?

Yes. We manage building consent applications, council requirements, and regulatory approvals as part of our full-service renovation offering. With over 20 years of experience navigating these processes, we know how to keep projects moving through Christchurch City Council and surrounding Canterbury councils.

Do you buy houses directly in Christchurch?

Yes. Wolven is a principal cash buyer of Christchurch and Canterbury properties — we purchase directly from homeowners for renovation and development, with no real estate agents, no commission, and no public listing. Our process covers initial enquiry, valuation, a cash offer, due diligence at our cost, and settlement on a timeline that suits you (as quickly as two weeks). Learn more about selling to Wolven.

What types of renovation projects do you take on?

Full-home renovations, kitchen and bathroom redesigns, extensions, character home restorations, new builds, multi-unit developments, and sub-divisions. See our completed projects for examples of the scale and style we work at.

Is the initial consultation really free?

Yes. We offer a free, no-obligation consultation to discuss your renovation ideas, budget, and timeline - or to talk through a potential property sale. It's the best way to get a feel for how we work before committing to anything.
